He
may look like an 80-year-old man, while having a whole lot of hair on his back,
but this indeed is a baby who was born on September 25th in Bangladesh. And his
photo has since gone viral.
It’s
actually a rare condition which only affects 1 in 4 million people. It’s called
progeria and it basically causes the body to age much more quickly than it
ordinarily would.
Here’s
what the doctor had to say who is treating the baby:
“The
baby does not look like a newborn at all. There are prominent signs of aging
such as excessive wrinkles and rough skin texture.”
While
shocking to many, the parents don’t care one way or another. Here’s what they
had to say about their baby’s condition:
‘”We
can only thank God,” said Biswajit Patro, the baby’s father and a farmer.
“There is no need to be unhappy about the appearance of my son. We will accept
him the way he is. Our first child, Aparna, has taken after her mother. But my
boy looks like me, and I am happy.”
Amazing
the positive and proud attitude that the father has towards his adorable
newborn and the unique look he was born with.
The
sad thing is, that most kids with this condition, do not live past the age of
13. Nevertheless, the parents still remain very positive.
“We
are so happy to have a baby boy in the house. We are already blessed to have a
daughter. Now we are a family of four. What else can we ask for.”
It
will be difficult for the child to live life normally even if the he does live
longer.
Sadly,
but as could be predicted, the child’s image has been mocked on social media,
prompting others to think about real life interaction with others. One comment
said the following:
“It’s
not what the child looks like that would break me. ..its the thought of how he
is supposed to survive in this [judgmental] society full of “perfect people”
who lack empathy.”
Naturally,
the most important thing is the following, made by another commentator:
“The
most important thing about this is that he is loved by his parents.”
And
indeed that appears to strongly be the case as the parents are thrilled and
proud of their boy.
