A
Virginia patient accidentally left his cellphone on during a routine
colonoscopy. Before surgery he wanted to record the doctor’s post-operation
instructions so he’d remember them, but he forgot to turn off the setting
before he went under.
What
followed is disturbing. After the procedure he listened to the recording where
he heard doctors saying horrific things about him. This isn’t the first time
this has happened either, Ethel Easter recorded her doctors making rude
comments about her body.
“After
five minutes of talking to you in pre-op, I wanted to punch you in the face and
man you up a little bit,” one doctor is heard saying .
Another
staff member called him the R-word, while the anesthesiologist, Dr. Tiffany
Ingham perhaps made the most belittling comments.
“I’m
going to mark hemorrhoids, even though we don’t see them and probably won’t,”
Ingham said. “I’m just gonna take a shot in the dark.”
The
group joked that he had ebola, syphilis, and other ailments. They were also
heard mocking other patients at their practice.
“They
want to believe what they want to believe. These people are into their medical
problems,” Ingham said. “Round and round we go, wheel of annoying patients we
go. Where it’ll land, nobody knows!”
The
patient sued the office for defamation and medical malpractice. He won, and the
courts granted him $500,000.
Do
you think the court made the correct decision? Let us know in the comments!
